About Me

Dr. Katy E. Hisrich is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Governors State University. She serves as the chair of both the Student Education Association at GSU and the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society. She won the Best Advisor award from the National Education Association in 2017.  In May 2018, Katy led a study abroad program for students in education to Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy.  Since 2015, Katy has been awarded over 8 grants for community service, professional development for educators, and student learning.  She has 4 publications and over 15 presentations in various fields of research.  Research includes read-aloud practices, learning, development psychology, technology use in education, family engagement, parent education, social media use among students, student success, teacher preparation, feedback and reflection, and entrepreneurship with children.

Katy Hisrich received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Arizona State University in 2010 and B.S. in Early Childhood Education and Child Development from Vanderbilt University in 2001. She has 17 years of experience in the field of education, including 7 years as a kindergarten teacher and 10 years as a university professor in both education and psychology departments. Katy also consults with various organizations to provide training, design programs, write curriculum, develop websites, and conduct data analysis and market research.  Katy also produces a podcast that provides tips and stories for college students.
